Just throw Eudora Thing into your System Folder, and let the fun begin! Feel free to read on, and if you have any questions that aren't listed here, feel fee to email me at:

By the way, Eudora Thing is Freeware, so enjoy its savory flavors without guilt!
Where does it go?
Eudora Thing is a System Extension, not a Eudora Extension. This means you'll need to put in the "Extensions Folder" in your "System Folder".
How does it work?
Eudora Thing patches the way your Mac will draw text on the screen. To make a long story short, every time your Mac draws text, it will check to see if it's in the Eudora application, if it is, and the string of text starts with one or more ">"s or ":"s it will change the color of that text.
Doesn't Eudora 4.1 do the same thing?
Eudora 4.1 introduces colorized quotes, but they only use one color to colorize all levels of quotes. Eudora Thing will colorize up to six levels of quotes with different colors.
Eudora Thing also works on all versions of Eudora.
How do you change the colors it uses?
You'll need either ResEdit, or Resorcerer. Just open up the Eudora Thing extension with one of those two, and change the colors in clut ID # 1000. Perhaps someday I'll improve the way this works and give it an interface... this is unlikely though.
What problems does it have?
As of 1.5, I don't know of any problems, so if you run into any, please let me know.
Do you ever plan to improve this?
Someday I hope to, but I'm a Human Interface designer, not a programmer.
I'd like to add the ability to detect the new quoted text bars that signify quoted styled text, and an interface for changing the quoted text colors. If any knows of any easy way for me to add these, please drop me a note and let me know!
What's changed since the last version?
Well, because of a glitch in the way Eudora 4.1 handles quoted text, I extensively rewrote how to detect lines of quoted text no longer relying on sample code from friends, but my own logic... which works much better. :-)
If you've used older version, you'll notice that when you scroll text doesn't change colors, and quote coloring no longer stops when you hit styled text.
